A year older, a few flyers wiser

I turned a year older this week—and while I didn’t spend it behind the decks or on a dancefloor, I did spend a lot of it thinking about Cambridge nightlife.

When I started Nightlife Cambridge, the goal was pretty simple: highlight what’s going on, support the scene, and maybe throw a few good parties. Fast forward a few months and In The Loop—our little house night at The Grain and Hop—has already had two great outings, with more in the works. It’s been a nice reminder that you don’t need massive budgets or huge venues to create something with soul. You just need a solid crew (shoutout Jard and Will), a good idea, and the patience to build.

But if there’s one thing this past year has taught me, it’s that the industry never stays still. From shifting student habits to rising venue costs and the ever-changing algorithm, the landscape of Cambridge nightlife keeps moving. You get one thing nailed down and another challenge pops up. Keeps you on your toes, I guess.

That said, I’m feeling energised. The success of In The Loop has made me itch to start something new—maybe something a bit bolder, or a different genre, or even a new format altogether. The scene might be evolving, but so are we. And that’s half the fun.

So yeah, I’m a year older now. But with every poster, every pint, and every post, I’m reminded why I started doing this in the first place: because I love it. And I think there’s still loads of potential in this city.

Let’s keep building.
